The MU Parents Association supports the programs, activities and mission of the University of Missouri-Columbia and serves as a communication link between parents and the University. The board of directors meets with campus officials to discuss campus issues and projects. The information presented is shared with members through quarterly newsletters.
Several campus administrators, including the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies, Director of Student Life , and others meet with the Board on an annual basis. MUPA also provides financial contributions to various campus departments and organizations for projects that benefit students.
Here is a list of recent accomplishments.
- Communicated events, issues, and information to members through issues of the Mizzou Family newsletter.
- Co-Sponsored the Parents Handbook along with the Office of Student Life and the Residential Life Office
- Gave out nearly $56,000.00 to student organizations that benefit the maximum number of students possible.
- Held Regional Meetings in Kansas City and St. Louis that all members could attend. This is a time where members can come and speak with top university administrators and have their concerns addressed
- Provided members with semester benefit packs, which include a calendar of events
- Responded to parent concerns and questions in a timely manner, we are your link to the university
- Sent out Parent Alert mailings when important issues needed to be addressed
Provided support to enhance educational and cultural opportunities and services through:
- Donations to the Student Success Center (SSC). The SSC is a place where students can find advising, career counseling, and other academic services
- Excellence in Education Awards, which rewarded 10 outstanding faculty members for their commitment to learning both in and out of the classroom
- Supporting programs that educate students about issues related to alcohol responsibility, students with disabilities, and wellness issues, including the Breath Easy no smoking initiative
The MU Parents Association has awarded nearly $56,000 to various student organizations, University departments and programs during the past three years. The mission of the board in determining grant selection is as follows:
"Grant applications are compiled, reviewed and are funded in total, partially or denied at the sole decision of the Board of Directors of MUPA. The Board of Directors of MUPA will review the grant application to see if the purpose of the applicant's proposed project(s) and the goals sought to be attained by such applicant will benefit as many University of Missouri students as possible and whether it helps promote diversity."
