MU Parents Association::Board of Directors

The MUPA is governed by a Board of Directors which meets with campus officials to address membership and campus issues. Members serve two-year terms and are elected by the general membership. The Board meets monthly in Columbia throughout the school year. Board membership is open to all MUPA members.

How to join the Board

All members of the Parent Association are welcome to join the Board of Directors through an applicaiton process. Applications can be requested at Summer Welcome or on the MUPA application. The board will process all requests to join in August of each year and applicants will be notified by early September.

Committees

Outreach-- This committee seeks involvement from parents of minority students and provides a vehicle of support for these parents and their students.

Issues-- The Issues Committee gathers information on issues that directly affect students and their parents and report to the Board of Directors. The Board acts on students and parents behalf by presenting these concerns to the appropriate University officials and discussing them together.

Communications-- The Communications Committee provides vehicles for communication of the issues and activities of the Association to the members of the Association. It oversees publication of the "Mizzou Family" newsletter and Parent Alerts.

Events/Membership-- This Committee coordinates the social and educational activities of the Association. MUPA board members serve as the official hosts of the Family Weekend tailgate barbecue and staff an information booth at Summer Welcome. Board members walk in the Homecoming Parade alongside a decorated vehicle and hand out candy and information flyers on MUPA. In the spring, MUPA sponsors a Restaurant Crawl for parents and their students at participating Columbia restaurants. The group also participates in Preview MU and Scholars Night.
